Better Jobs Better Care was a 4-year $15.5 million research and demonstration program, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Atlantic Philanthropies.
The program sought to achieve changes in long-term care policy and practice that helped to reduce high vacancy and turnover rates among direct care staff across the spectrum of long-term
care settings and contribute to improved workforce quality. Through two types of grant programs - Demonstration Programs and Applied Research and Evaluation Programs - Better Jobs Better Care tested new approaches to providing
a more stable and qualified long-term care staff and systematically evaluated what worked best to achieve this objective.
The Better Jobs Better Care Program Office, together with its partner the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute, a nonprofit health care employment development and advocacy organization based in South Bronx, New York,
provided technical assistance and support to grantees through:
- On-site technical assistance, training, and consultation;
- National meetings and workshops;
- Publications, including technical manuals, issue briefs, and newsletters.
Better Jobs Better Care is directed and managed by the Institute for the Future of Aging Services (IFAS), American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA).
